Terms of Service
The agreement between you and SafeLeo. The most important part is section 2 — please read it even if you skip the rest.
Effective
1. This agreement
These terms govern your use of the SafeLeo app and this website. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use SafeLeo.
Our Privacy Policy forms part of this agreement and explains how we handle your data.
2. What SafeLeo is not
SafeLeo is not an emergency service and is not a substitute for one. We do not dispatch police, ambulances, fire services or private responders. Nobody is monitoring your account, and pressing SOS does not summon help from us.
In an emergency, call 999 or 112. Do that first. SafeLeo tells the people you chose that something is wrong — it does not replace the people whose job it is to come.
What SafeLeo actually does:
- Shows people in your Circle where you are, when you allow it.
- Sends an alarm to your Circle when you press SOS.
- Shows safety reports posted by other users near a location, and lets you post your own.
All of that depends on things outside our control: your phone having power and signal, location services being on, notifications being permitted, and the people in your Circle noticing and acting. Please do not build a safety plan that assumes any of those will hold.
3. Who can use it
You must be 18 or older to create an account. If you are adding someone under 18 to your Circle, you confirm you are their parent or guardian, or that you have that person’s permission.
4. Your account
- Give us an email address you actually control — it is how you sign in.
- Keep access to that mailbox secure. Anyone who can read it can request a sign-in code and get into your account.
- Do not share your account or let someone else use it.
- Tell us promptly at hello@safeleo.app if you think someone else has access.
- You can delete your account from the app at any time.
5. Sharing location
Your Circle is built by invitation and consent. You choose who joins, and separately whether each of them can see your live location and your last known location. You can change or revoke either at any time.
Do not use SafeLeo to monitor someone without their knowledge. Adding a person requires them to accept, and they can leave whenever they like. Using the app to track a partner, employee or anyone else against their wishes is a breach of these terms and we will close accounts for it.
If you add a child to your Circle, you are responsible for that arrangement being lawful and appropriate.
6. Reporting alerts
Alerts are useful only if they are honest. When you post one you confirm that you believe it to be true and that you are reporting it in good faith.
- Do not post false or exaggerated reports. A fabricated incident sends people the wrong way and makes every real report worth less.
- Do not identify individuals. No names, no photographs of people, no vehicle registrations, no accusations against a named person. Report what happened and where, not who you think did it.
- Do not use alerts to target a person, business, community or ethnic group.
- Choose the precision honestly — approximate exists so you can report near your home without pinpointing it.
We may remove any alert, and alerts expire on their own once they stop being current.
7. Credits and payment
The core of SafeLeo is free and stays free: seeing your Circle, arrival notifications, baseline local alerts and basic SOS. We do not meter safety you rely on daily.
Some features are paid for with credits bought through M-Pesa. Our commitments:
- Credits do not expire. Load them when it is convenient and use them whenever you need to.
- The free layer is never metered. Running out of credits never leaves you without the baseline protection above.
- Prices are shown in the app before you spend anything, and we will tell you in advance if they change.
Credits have no cash value and are not transferable or refundable except where Kenyan consumer law requires otherwise, or where a charge was clearly our error — in which case tell us and we will fix it. If a paid feature fails to work through our fault, we will refund the credits it consumed.
8. Content you post
You keep ownership of what you post. You grant us a licence to store, display and distribute it for the purpose of running SafeLeo — showing your alert to people nearby, for instance. That licence ends when the content is removed, except for copies in backups until those age out.
Do not post anything you do not have the right to share, and do not upload photographs in which other people are identifiable.
9. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Break the law, or use SafeLeo to help anyone else do so.
- Harass, threaten, stalk or endanger anyone.
- Attempt to access accounts, data or systems that are not yours.
- Scrape, resell or redistribute alert data, or use the service to build a competing product.
- Interfere with the service — automated abuse, overwhelming our systems, circumventing rate limits.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your association with us.
10. Availability
We work to keep SafeLeo running, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption. It depends on mobile networks, notification services run by Apple and Google, and infrastructure we do not own. Maintenance, outages and failures will happen.
The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that alerts or notifications will always arrive.
11. Our liability
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
Subject to that, and to the extent Kenyan law allows:
- We are not liable for loss or harm arising from an alert or notification not being delivered, being delayed, or being inaccurate.
- We are not liable for the actions of other users, including the accuracy of their reports or whether anyone in your Circle responds.
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit or data.
- Our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period, or KSh 5,000.
This reflects that SafeLeo is a low-cost tool that tells your own people something is wrong — not an emergency service, and not insurance.
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, particularly for false reporting or for tracking someone without consent. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
You may stop using SafeLeo and delete your account at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive — liability, governing law — continue to apply afterwards.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. The effective date at the top reflects the current version, and we will give reasonable notice in the app or by email before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use SafeLeo after that means you accept the new terms.
15. Contact us
hello@safeleo.app for anything about these terms, including reporting a user or telling us we have got something wrong.
